Join our dedicated fleet and appliance team who are responsible for ensuring our fire trucks and appliances are kept in safe working order, so our firefighters can attend emergency incidents and keep the community safe.

Salary: DFES Fleet and Equipment Services Agreement 2022, Light Vehicle Mechanic Technician 3, $86,805 - $87,838 & Heavy Diesel Mechanic Technician 2, $94,651 - $95,684 (both inclusive of an availability allowance) + superannuation + access to attractive overtime rates and other allowances

- Service, repair and maintain firefighting and emergency vehicles, equipment such as aerial appliances and hand-held firefighting equipment.
- Provide technical advice and training to ensure the safety of staff and the community.
- Undertake paid, on-the-job training including Introduction to Firefighting, 4WD Operations & Recovery, OEM and more.
- Complete the usual bits of paperwork - nothing too crazy, just worksheets, inspection forms and fault reports.
- An approximately 18-24 month program consisting of 10 weeks in TAFE and 18 month on-site learning.
- Full time, Fixed-term contract, with the possibility of permanency upon successful completion of the trade qualification upgrade.
- Exposure to a range of equipment.

- Relevant qualification requirements:
- Minimum Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or
- Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or
- Certificate III in Engineering Fixed and Mobile Plant Mechanic (Fixed Plant Mechanic) with elective modules relevant to heavy vehicles or
- Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology (Mobile Plant Equipment) with elective modules relevant to heavy vehicles or
- Equivalent with elective modules relevant to heavy vehicles.
- Light Vehicle Mechanics must have a current Australian Manual C Class driver's license (HR Desirable).
- Heavy Diesel Mechanics must have a current Heavy Rigid (HR) licence.
- Strong safety focus with the ability to work in a team environment.
- A committed and driven attitude and strong work ethic.
- Exceptional diagnostic & troubleshooting/interpretive skills.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical.
- Provide a current National Police Certificate (less than 3 months old) prior to commencement.
- Full Australian working rights.
