About the Role
We are seeking a Heavy and Light Vehicle Mechanic at our Olympic Dam site to work in our site crew to carry out mechanical and maintenance work and other related tasks safely, to quality and time specification and standards and assist in other areas as required. Successful candidates will provide civil support and expertise to other trades and workgroups.
This role may be offered as a residential or DIDO role, depending on the successful candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Minimise machinery downtime, conduct preventative maintenance and maximise efficiency of industry plants and machinery to ensure ongoing productivity;
- Read and interpret drawings and specifications to determine job requirements;
- Inspect and monitor plant equipment as required;
- Repair plant equipment and maintain plant spares;
- Respond to breakdowns and make adjustments to ensure plant operation accordingly;
- Log information and fulfil administrative requirements with a high degree of accuracy and in a timely manner;
- Provide direction to Trades Assistants in the performance of their duties;
- Ensure material, labour, plant and equipment is used as effectively and efficiently as possible;
- Overhaul, service and repair the mechanical parts including engines, gearboxes, clutches and brakes of cars, utilities and Heavy equipment;
- Stay on top of minor and major maintenance including oil changes, engine tune ups, inspections and general servicing;
- Participate in shift/swing hand over prior to finishing work to ensure other employees are aware of all relevant information;
- Ensure that all tools and equipment are clean and well maintained;
- Operate vehicles, plant and equipment and tools in a proper manner;
- Undertake all other reasonable tasks and duties that are peripheral to your role and within your skill and ability, as directed.
Skills and Experience
- Trade qualified – Mechanical Engineering trade/Heavy Diesel fitter
- Previous experience in a similar role
- Construction Induction (white card)
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision;
- Class C drivers license;
- Willingness to work at other Ahrens Group locations if required.
- Holding additional high-risk tickets and licenses will be beneficial.
