Our Opportunity
Work Location: Fortescue's Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday-Friday.
Based in Perth, the Principal Heritage works in close collaboration with the Heritage Manager - Heritage Assessment and Approvals. The Principal Heritage is responsible for providing strategic direction to the business and heritage team, in relation to the management and safe delivery of Fortescue's cultural heritage requirements. The Principal Heritage provides technical and quality assurance to a team of Advisors, as well as support to a remote field team.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, support and develop a team of Heritage professionals (professional development and mentoring)
  • Managing a team of Heritage professionals to ensure work quality, schedule, and values expectations are met
  • Supervise the development of Heritage approval; strategies (s16 and s18 design and submission).
  • Provision of heritage strategic advice to internal stakeholders (Business Scope Documents).
  • Supervision and review of Program of Works applications (PoWs), s16, s18 applications, Cultural Heritage Management Plans (where required) as well as heritage survey deliverables (Preliminary Advice and Final Reports).
  • Supervise the development and implementation of processes and procedures in collaboration with the Heritage Approvals Team.
  • Ensure approvals are sought in a timely manner and in accordance with business requirements and relevant State and Commonwealth Aboriginal Cultural Heritage legislation
  • Supervise the development of Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs) where required
  • Develop and maintain an Obligations Register, that is transparent within the business
  • Escalation of delays or issues that arise as appropriate
Qualifications and Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in archaeology or anthropology, or in a related discipline.
  • At least 10 years' experience working in cultural heritage within mining or energy sectors. Previous experience as a team lead or in an influencing-without-authority role.
  • Experience in developing cultural heritage management plans and / or risk assessments is highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely and as a collaborative team member.
  • Development and technical review of Heritage assessments, studies, and other related investigations to understand potential risks to cultural heritage
  • Developing and setting processes and standards
  • Supporting, mentoring and professional development of team members
  • Excellent attention to detail and demonstrated ability to deliver results while working on multiple projects within tight timeframes
  • Highly developed administrative and computer skills in the Microsoft Office suite and spatial management software (Arc GIS or similar). Ability to learn and use new software quickly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders from a diverse range of backgrounds, to establish and strengthen relationships.
  • High-level interpersonal skills.
