Role Overview: As a Support Worker, you will be responsible for delivering personalised support to participants with complex needs, ensuring their well-being, safety, and independence. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities while gaining valuable experience in the Disability Support field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one support to participants in various aspects of daily living, including personal care, mobility assistance, and community engagement.
- Assist participants in following their individualised support plans, promoting their autonomy and quality of life.
- Foster positive relationships with participants, families, and support networks, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Monitor participants' health and well-being, promptly addressing any concerns or changes in their condition.
- Document support provided and participant progress accurately and comprehensively, following organisational protocols and standards.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Demonstrated experience in Disability Support, particularly working with individuals with complex needs.
- Strong knowledge of disability-related conditions and challenges, including but not limited to cerebral palsy, deafness, intellectual disabilities, epilepsy, anxiety, and sensory processing disorders.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Valid Victorian Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to adapt communication methods to meet participants' unique needs.
- Empathy, patience, and compassion, with a genuine commitment to promoting the dignity and rights of individuals with disabilities.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Additional Experience:
- Proven ability to effectively manage behaviours of concern and implement positive behaviour support strategies.
- Experience in adhering to restrictive practice guidelines and protocols, ensuring the safety and well-being of participants.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations pertaining to restrictive practices and behaviour management in the Disability Support sector.
- Ability to work collaboratively with care teams. Including behaviour support specialists, psychologists, and allied health professionals, to develop and implement individualised behaviour support plans.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations, prioritising the safety and dignity of participants at all times.
- Willingness to participate in additional training and professional development related to behaviour management and restrictive practices, as required by organisational policies and regulatory requirements.
