Job description

Invenio Engineering Solutions have been a recruitment partner with Ford for close to 30 years. We are currently seeking an experienced and self-motivated HIL Engineer for a 12 month contract role within Ford’s Product Development team based in Geelong.

In this role you will be working in a dynamic global environment as a member of the HIL team. As Ford progresses the development of Hybrid and Battery vehicles in Australia, the corresponding shift towards higher technology validation methodologies continues. The HIL facility in Geelong provides a key role in this evolution.

At the HIL facility the vehicle electronic hardware is connected to the HIL simulator to provide off-vehicle testing capabilities. The HIL Engineer interprets the vehicle hardware and architecture then determines the simulator connection and integration to the vehicle control modules. After designing the facility, the HIL Engineer works with the Technicians to build a representative test platform. The HIL Engineer creates the simulator models to define the low-level I/O mapping and higher-level Simulink control methodologies. The HIL Engineer also performs commissioning of the facility to debug the hardware and model functionality.

The HIL engineer works with the feature owners and test requestors to create fault insertion and network controls which provide the environment for test execution. In parallel the test automation Engineers work with the HIL Engineer to develop their test scripts which depend upon the HIL models created by the HIL Engineer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead onsite facility build and commissioning activities.
  • Identify vehicle parts and facility hardware required for test facility and manage the delivery.
  • Create the electrical hardware design to interface vehicle modules with the test facility.
  • Create Model design, integration and build the executable using dSPACE toolset.
  • Support test development and execution throughout the program lifecycle

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  •  Automotive or similar background with understanding of electrical interfaces, schematics and vehicle networking protocols.
  • Capable of fault-finding to root cause facility design and model or vehicle hardware issues during commissioning and test execution.
  • Skilled with Matlab, Simulink, Control Desk, Automation Desk, Vector and CarMaker toolchains.
  •  Flexibility to communicate across the Product Development domains, from Design Engineer to Feature Owner and test requestor.
  • Equally comfortable working with peers overseas to adopt prior knowledge as working independently to generate solutions.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or in similar field
  • Minimum 7 years’ relevant industry experience
  • Candidates with appropriate experience or equivalent skill levels will also be considered.
