Job description

Home Care Support Worker (Casual)

“I like working at St Barts as the team is extremely welcoming and friendly. My manager is warm, understanding, and approachable - she always makes herself available to us. I love that every day brings new challenges and that we are making a meaningful impact in our consumers lives”.

Nat – Home Care Team Leader

About Us

St Bart’s is a Western Australian not-for-profit organisation founded in 1963 as a small homeless shelter for men.  For over 60 years, we have been standing by the side of vulnerable Western Australians experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness, mental health challenges, trauma and hardship. Since our foundation, we have evolved into a larger organisation that provides progressive, person-centred and trauma-informed recovery support to people in need, regardless of background, age, gender or ethnicity.

We provide safe, supported accommodation and services to people who need it the most. Each year, we stand by the side of more than 500 of Western Australia’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged people, supporting them on their recovery journeys and empowering them to achieve their goals.

We value our people – employees, volunteers, partners and stakeholders – and appreciate the meaningful contributions they make in the lives of our consumers.

About the role

Our Support Workers play a vital role in supporting older adults to actively participate in activities that maintain their independence, ensuring they can stay at home for as long as possible.  Through a person centred, empathetic approach this role provides social support, personal care and supports our consumers with domestic duties.

If successful you will contribute to the delivery of a high-quality Home Care service.  You will assist with personal care including showering, grooming, mobility assistance and medication management, ensuring our consumers retain their dignity and independence.

Taking into consideration the qualifications, skills and experience of the successful applicant the base hourly rate is $32 - $35, plus 25% casual loading, superannuation and penalty rates.

About you

You are a caring person, passionate about motivating and empowering older adults to maintain their independence and quality of life. You take pride in all aspects of your work, providing domestic assistance, social support and encouraging community participation.

With your excellent interpersonal skills, you empathise and relate with a diverse range of clients, their families, and networks. You genuinely care about people and are committed to supporting them to stay in their home and community for as long as possible.

Ideally, you will have experience working independently, providing care to aged people within the home and community settings. You will also be familiar with care plans, and preparing high-quality, compliant care documentation.

While your skills and experience are important to us, your values and attitudes are crucial to your success at St Bart’s. We are looking for a candidate who is compassionate and whose values align with St Bart’s – Empowerment, Innovation, Commitment, Collaboration and Social Justice. We are looking for someone who can help us create and maintain a workplace that fosters inclusion, diversity and a commitment to excellence.

As we work with vulnerable people, the successful candidate will be required to show proof of a current National Police Clearance.

This role is required to transport consumers to appointments, therefore a reliable and registered motor vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage is required. A mileage allowance is paid as reimbursement on a claim basis.

Why join St Bart’s?

In addition to joining a professional and dedicated team with passion and a commitment to our values and making a difference within the community, the benefits of working with us are:

  • A culture of learning with development opportunities
  • Corporate discounts and memberships.
  • Supportive leadership

We want to know about you – why you want to work with us and how your skills, qualifications and experience align with the position requirements.

To apply, please submit your current resume and a cover letter which details the hours you are available to work and that demonstrates your suitability for the position.
