About this opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably skilled and experienced person to join the Parks and Landscape Maintenance Team to lead and coordinate a small operational team to develop and maintain Council's parks, streetscapes, nursery services, landscapes and cemeteries using industry and accepted horticultural skills and work practices.
This position involves a mix of garden and mowing maintenance and the proportion of each varies from season to season.
Currently this role will be based from the Boonah Depot, however Council employees may be asked to work from any of our depots.
Key responsibilities include:
- To lead, coordinate and assist an operation team to maintain and develop
- Council's parks, gardens, landscaping, cemeteries and nursery services using industry and Council accepted horticultural skills and work practices.
- Assume responsibility for the operation, security and condition of all Council vehicles and equipment utilised by the work team.
- To assist in the operational leadership and coordination of special horticultural and cemeteries projects.
- Assist to manage, support and develop staff by assessing and reviewing performance and work standards for all subordinate personnel, and advise supervisor of substandard performance.
About you
You will be required to have the following attributes:
- A certificate (level 3) in Horticulture or equivalent competencies gained through structured training or relevant practical experience is essential.
- A current Queensland "MR" Driver's License or a "C" Class Driver's License with willingness and ability to procure a "MR" Driver's Licence within 6 months of commencement is essential.
- A current card for 30215 Qld - Course in General Safety Induction (Construction Industry) is essential.
- An Agricultural Chemical Distribution Control Commercial Operators License or the willingness and ability to procure such a license within 6 months of commencement of employment are essential.
- Effective communication and numeracy skills including ability to liaise effectively with supervisors, the work team and the general public.
