Position Title: Hospital Scientist (Scientific Officer)
Employment Type: Maximum Term, Full Time (6 month contract with extension depending upon performance)

Salary: $70,956.89- $101,208.98 base per annum

About the role:
A vacancy exists in the above unit for a highly motivated person to join our friendly and supportive team. Sydney Heart Valve Bank is an independent not-for-profit TGA licensed human cardiovascular tissue bank which sits within the Heart Lung Clinical Stream at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney. Cardiovascular tissues are retrieved from human donated organs and cryopreserved for surgical implantation. The Scientific Officer will be actively involved in all critical tissue manufacturing activities, the dispatching of cardiovascular grafts for surgery, and associated administration tasks.

We are looking for a hands-on and proactive team player who will assist and provide backup for the Production Manager. The Scientific Officer will be actively involved in all critical tissue manufacturing activities and associated administrative tasks. Full training will be provided. Must have valid driver’s license and a safe driving record, as after hours on-call will be required when fully trained. This position offers a full-time contract (38hr/week) for an initial 6 months period with renew pending on performance.

Selection Criteria:
1. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
2. Tertiary qualification.
3. Previous work experience, not necessarily in a hospital environment.
4. Knowledge of human anatomy/function and basic medical terminology.
5. Able to self-manage time, prioritise workload and multi-task as required.
6. Able to work independently and also be an effective and supportive team-member capable of following directions and adhering to documented procedures.
7. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Able to liaise with others
8. Computer literacy including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
