About the Opportunity
This is a full time, closed period contract for 6 months. Based in Wyong.
This is a role within the Doorways Central Coast team. You will work within a team environment providing information, referral, "drop in support", crisis services, and strengths-based casework that is driven by the needs of people sleeping rough on the Central Coast. You will be responsible for working with people sleeping rough to assist them to access safe affordable housing.
What you'll be doing day to day;
Work with local government and non local government service providers to develop referral pathways to best meet the needs of the individual and families who are sleeping rough
Provide telephone and face to face advice and information, needs assessments, referral support, case coordination, outreach and short intervention support for rough sleepers
Set up communication systems between housing providers so that organisations and programs are linked together to have clear communication
Provide data and reports to DCJ to meet evaluation and reporting requirements.
Assess the needs of families and individual family members, identify appropriate service responses and facilitate referral and engagement with those services.
Advocate on behalf of service users and provide outreach services to rough sleepers
What you need to succeed;
Minimum Diploma in Community Services
Experience working with homeless people and families highly regarded
Demonstrated understanding of child protection issues; issues facing vulnerable families
Demonstrated ability to actively engage people in crisis using a client-centred approach. Skills in communication and problem-solving.
Demonstrated ability to assess families/individual needs using a strengths-based approach.
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and to travel within the region to meet the needs of families as required.
Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively with colleagues (internal and external).
Ability to make sound decisions about the extent and timeliness of the support required.
Current driver's licence and willingness to use own or private vehicle (with comprehensive insurance) for work related travel if required, and willingness to transport families and children.
