Access the National Relay Service

The successful candidates will participate in the identification, development and implementation of quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification that enhance the delivery of pathology services within the local service area.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • A demonstrated high level of knowledge, expertise, and skills within a multi-skilled laboratory.
  • Availability to participate in a multidisciplinary team on a 24/7 Continuous Shift roster as required including weekends, public holidays. May be required to participate in extra shifts when necessary to maintain service delivery. Reliability and punctuality to ensure uninterrupted pathology service provision 24/7.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills including customer service, conflict resolution, and ability to contribute positively towards a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical advice and provision of results to laboratory staff and Hospital and Health Service clients pertaining to Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology and Urine Microscopy.
  • Ability to perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise to effectively manage high volume workloads whilst maintaining excellent customer service in alignment with the overall strategic plan of the Department.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use computerised systems, and in the use of software systems including a Laboratory Information System (AUSLAB), Unity, a Quality Information System, Microsoft Office 365.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.

Qualifications, registrations, and other requirements

  • The successful applicant must hold at least a relevant tertiary degree (or equivalent recognised qualification) in an eligible discipline from a recognised university or tertiary institution. Proof of qualification will be required.
  • Please detail any visa conditions you may have if you are not a permanent resident of Australia.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements

  • It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
  • Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
  • Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, department to a HHS, or HHS to department).
