About Ravenhall Correctional Centre

Ravenhall Correctional Centre is part of The GEO Group Australia, based west of Melbourne and is Victoria's largest prison for adult sentenced and unsentenced males. It's contemporary campus-style design provides a safe and humane environment that enables and nurtures GEO's Continuum of Care operating philosophy.

Ravenhall also has a dedicated Forensic Mental Health Unit, a specialised Closed Supervision Unit for prisoners with significant challenging behaviours, and a small Mission Based Unit for prisoners who have never been in custody before. In recognition of the importance of Continuum of Care, Ravenhall extends its presence into the community by providing ex-prisoners with access to post-release support at GEO’s Community Reintegration Centre

About the Opportunity

As the HR Coordinator - Payroll, you will enjoy variety in your responsibilities. Working within an interchangeable role between established portfolios, you will be an integral part of the Human Resources team responsible for working collaboratively to support, coordinate and administer HR services across Payroll and participate in Rostering and Generalist HR functions. The payroll function will include the process fortnightly payroll inclusive of workers compensation related payments and reimbursements and/or any other required special payroll involving manual checking of data imported from Kronos and applying required corrections, review rostering exceptions and rectify based on approvals and evidence of time worked monitor all payroll records for the Centre staff and correct any errors that may occur in a timely fashion, investigate omission and exceptions and obtain appropriate authorisation prior to updating data and ensure that all payments to and entitlements for employees are in line with the relevant legislation.

The HR Coordinator roles are designed to be rotated based on the preferences and development pathways of individual portfolio holders. You are not expected to be an expert in every discipline or have experience with every portfolio at the time of applying, however it is anticipated that you will have the knowledge or the willingness to learn at least one or two other portfolio's over time in line with your HR discipline of preference and to provide you with a broad set of HR skills and knowledge. Portfolio's will only be rotated by agreement with the Senior HR Coordinator and HR Manager and subject to operational requirements with a focus on minimal impact to centre service delivery as a priority. .

You will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Working within the payroll portfolio and assist to specific functions and deliverables of rostering or HR generalist related objectives.
  • Processing fortnightly pay for all staff within the Ravenhall facility.
  • Working cooperatively with stakeholders to understand operational requirements and needs prior to development of solutions.
  • Provide guidance and advice to staff and Leaders with regards to management of HR/payroll related queries and managing people effectively and efficiently.
  • Undertake administrative related tasks associated with Human Resources functions.
  • Maintain variety of databases in line with requirements, ensuring communication is routinely established to ensure appropriate recording / reporting and follow up actions are undertaken and documented appropriately in order to generate weekly, monthly and quarterly statistical reports as required.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement culture of the HR department by identifying and implementing process improvements and streamlined methods of operation where possible.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in human resources or business with a HR major, or extensive demonstrated experience in diverse HR roles.
  • Sound working knowledge of payroll principles, experience with rostering/scheduling will be advantageous.
  • Exceptional time management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate solution focused outcomes with a high level of initiative and self drive.
  • Sound understanding of workplace HR policies and procedures, enterprise agreements and current employment related legislation.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to provide exceptional customer service having built strong relationships across the business.
  • Manage competing priorities and able to proactively identify and respond to needs of individuals as required.
  • Demonstrated competency in utilising HRIS programs and influential data reporting.
  • Demonstrates respect, integrity and empathy when dealing with confidential and often discreet personnel and human resources matters.

Desirable:

  • Previous responsibility for undertaking payroll activities for 200+ employees.
  • Track record of successfully working in a complex and dynamic organisation.
  • Experienced working with Kronos workforce management system
