Human Resources Specialist (El1)

Senior HR opportunity within a federal government organisation based in Townsville, QLD.

Your new company 

Hays are pleased to partner with a company dedicated to preserving and protecting the Great Barrier Reef. Passionate about seeing, loving and protecting the reef, this organisation is expanding and seeking a Human Resources Specialist to join the team on a temporary contract for up to 6 months. 

Your new role 

In your new role, you will be required to:

• Apply contemporary, best practice HR knowledge and practice to support the Reef Authority in maintaining a skilled workforce within a changing work environment.
• Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
• Lead, manage and direct all aspects of project management including planning, executing, monitoring, reporting and contract / supplier management. 
• Consult and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to understand current and emerging views and considerations. 
• Undertake research and analysis to inform and provide recommendations. 
• Undertake necessary steps to review and amend policies, procedures and processes as required. 
• Prepare written briefs, communication materials and project updates as required to a high standard. 
• Manage associated resources effectively and within budget, including staffing and procurement within Commonwealth Procurement guidelines. 
• Contributing to a positive and collaborative work environment within the HR team.

What you'll need to succeed 

To succeed in this role you will require:

• Knowledge of contemporary human resource practices and systems. 
• Formal qualifications in Human Resources or 3+ years’ experience in an HR related role.
• Project management qualifications or experience managing projects.
• Experience in HRIS and recruitment/onboarding platforms and policy development & implementation. 
• Experience in one or more key functional areas within HR (e.g., Recruitment, Learning and Development, Payroll, Employee Relations, or Project Management).
• Applicants must be Australian Citizens and be willing to complete an Australian Federal Police Check (National Police Check)
