About the Role
The Imaging Technician (ELIC) at the Equine Lameness and Imaging Centre, University of Melbourne's Werribee campus, plays a pivotal role in delivering gold-standard equine clinical and research imaging, lameness investigation, and surgery support.This position is integral to ensuring efficient imaging technical services and nursing assistance to veterinarians and researchers, with a keen eye on quality assurance and service excellence.Your responsibilities will include:
  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of diagnostic imaging within ELIC to ensure timely and efficient imaging services.
  • Ensure excellent delivery of Lameness and Imaging services, patient care and efficient nursing assistance to veterinarians and researchers in a timely manner in accordance with best practice.
  • Work closely with the Advanced Imaging Technician and Professor (Equine Orthopaedics) and relevant staff to ensure appropriate allocation of resources to conduct imaging services.
  • Operate imaging equipment within the Equine Lameness and Imaging Centre in accordance with radiation and operational safety protocols.
  • Produce, processes and store images from diagnostic imaging procedures.
Who We Are Looking For
You will demonstrate a genuine passion for horses, experience handling horses and exhibit professionalism, enthusiasm, initiative, and a proactive attitude toward learning new skills and tasks.You will also have:
  • Completion of a relevant Certificate IV or Diploma in Veterinary Nursing, with relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Proven knowledge and familiarity with the Code of Practice for Radiation Protection in Veterinary Medicine to ensure compliance with operation of imaging equipment.
  • Proven veterinary nursing experience working with equine patients gained in the veterinary industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in equine radiography, scintigraphy and/or CT.
  • Proven animal handling skills in a veterinary clinical environment, and in particular horse-handling skills and experience gained within the equine industry.

This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
