About the Role
- The purpose of this role is to advise consumers and their nominated support persons, family, carers and other support persons of their rights under the Mental Health Act 2016 (the Act).
- An Independent Patient Rights Adviser in performing the adviser's functions must act independently and impartially from MSH Addition and Mental Health Services.
- Help the consumer, and the consumer's nominated support persons, family, carers and other support persons to communicate to health practitioners the consumer's views, wishes and preferences about the consumer's treatment and care.
- Consult with authorised mental health practitioners, authorised doctors, administrators of authorised mental health services, and the chief psychiatrist on the rights of consumers under the Act, the Guardianship and Administration Act 2000, the Powers of Attorney Act 1998 and other laws.
