Individual Disability Advocate – Wheatbelt

Are you seeking an exciting and varied role supporting people with disability in upholding their rights?

We are seeking a highly motivated Individual Advocate who is passionate about human rights and supporting people with disability to achieve their advocacy goals.

About the Organisation: 

We are a member-based, non-profit/for purpose organisation, that provides individual advocacy services to people with disability. Our Advocates support people to voice their concerns, access information, identify relevant resources and services, and resolve their advocacy issues. We also undertake systemic advocacy activities and other advocacy related projects.

About the Position:

We are offering an Individual Advocate position, based in the Wheatbelt, until 27th June 2025 initially, with a strong possibility of extension. 

A minimum of 22.5 hours, up to 38 hours per week, can be considered, during usual business hours. Work hours and days can be further discussed upon interview.

To be considered for the position, the following Selection Criteria and Additional Requirements need to be met. 

Selection Criteria:

  1. A relevant degree or associate diploma with relevant experience OR substantial relevant experience demonstrating an equivalent level of knowledge, expertise, and skills.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of a rights-based approach to supporting people with disability and/or mental health issues, including knowledge of contemporary, evidence based, practices. 
  3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong negotiation and facilitation skills.
  4. Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships.
  5. Ability to work autonomously, and as part of a team that is primarily based in Perth, supporting individuals with disability and the organisation to achieve goals and outcomes.
  6. Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities.
  7. Strong research and analytical skills.
  8. Relevant computer skills, such as using database systems and Microsoft Office.

Additional Requirements 

  • Regular travel in the Wheatbelt Region. Occasional travel to and from Perth and/or an overnight stay away from home may be required. 
  • Current Driver’s License and registered vehicle with comprehensive insurance OR alternative means of travel compatible with the role.
  • National Police Clearance, less than 6 months old upon commencement.
  • Valid Working with Children Check.
  • Evidence of qualifications, the right to Work in Australia, and 100 points of Identification including one photo identification.

Lived experience of disability, a good understanding of human rights issues relevant to people with disability, and knowledge of services and supports in the Wheatbelt will also be well regarded.
