  • Ongoing position - Multiple Roles
  • VPS3: $74,580 – $90,558 + superannuation

The Department of Justice and Community Safety are seeking Intake & Triage Officers to join the new Victims of Crime Financial Assistance Scheme, providing intake & triage of new applications, while supporting victims through providing interim assistance to respond to their immediate needs.

About the Business Unit

This is an exciting opportunity to deliver a major new initiative for victims of crime. The FAS is a landmark reform that will replace the judicially based Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal with an administrative scheme that prioritises the needs of victims and supports their recovery from violent crime.

The FAS is highly anticipated by victims and stakeholders and represents a major leap forward in the Victorian Government's response to victims of crime. Established under the Victims of Crime (Financial Assistance Scheme) Act 2022 the FAS will provide financial assistance through a simple and easy to navigate process that is fair, sensitive, and responsive to victims' needs. It will acknowledge harm done and be trauma informed, with a priority focus on being inclusive and culturally safe.

Reporting to the FAS Intake and Triage Supervisor, you will review FAS applications to ensure they are ready for the FAS assessment team to action. You will have direct contact with victims and their support people to ensure applications are complete. You will also make decisions to award interim assistance within clearly defined guidelines to ensure victims can access support for their immediate needs, and authorise payments to be made.

About the Role

Duties will include:

  • Identify, analyse, and provide advice on documentary evidence requirements for applicants or their appointed representative to enable assessment of their application.
  • Analyse applications to determine their priority and complexity using an interpretation of established policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Identify and analyse documentary evidence to make interim decisions on applications to respond to the immediate needs of applicants.
