Job description

The Role

The Defence Intelligence Organisation’s people are our most valuable resource. We bring together smart, focused people from a range of backgrounds and provide them with training and opportunities to develop deep subject matter expertise. Our work is exciting, interesting and imbibed with a strong sense of purpose. As an APS5 Intelligence Assessment Analyst in South-East Asia and Pacific Branch, you will analyse information from a variety of sources to discern what is true and what is probable. You will communicate your assessments in writing and verbally, to inform Australia’s national security decision-making. You will have the discretion to exercise initiative and judgement as you work independently and as part of a team. You will build working relationships across the Australian National Intelligence Community, throughout the Australian government and with international partners.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. For further information, please contact the contact officer.

About our Team

DIO is at the forefront of world events – as they happen, and often beforehand. It is a supportive and inclusive workplace full of bright people working with the best information to serve the national interest. We believe that a diverse workplace makes us stronger and better able to question and contest ideas to deliver robust and considered outcomes. We trust, respect and invest in our people, providing world-class training and opportunities, including travel, for staff to reach their full potential. South-East Asia and Pacific Branch is an exciting and fast-paced work environment, using our expertise to support a wide-range of Defence and Government customers to understand military, political, social and cultural developments in South-East Asia and the Pacific and the implications for Australia’s security and interests.

Our Ideal Candidate

People who are intellectually curious about the world, particularly South-East Asia or the Pacific, and keen to help others navigate the complexities of our region. Someone who wants to contribute to Australia’s national security.

Our ideal candidate must demonstrate:

• Working collaboratively as part of a team.

• Excellent research and analytic skills.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Good judgement, problem solving and initiative.

• Alignment with Department of Defence values and behaviours.
