About the Role

The Queensland newsroom is looking for an experienced Investigative Reporter who can break and regularly deliver high quality original stories across platforms.  You will be a self-starter with a track record of generating content across digital and broadcast platforms that appeal to a state and national audience, utilising a range of contacts, sources and investigate techniques.

The role will also involve:

  • With limited direction, generate exclusive QLD stories utilising a wide network of contacts, trusted sources, research, data and open-source intelligence (OSINT) techniques.
  • Under limited direction write concise and accurate copy and scripts, using creative storytelling techniques.  Demonstrate advanced media production and presentation skills. 
  • Maintain knowledge of current production methods, software and online reporting tools. 
  • Play an active role planning and executing cross-format projects with ABC Regional & Local teams in QLD.
  • Generate stories that are relevant to a broad section of Australians and reflect the cultural, geographic and socio-economic diversity of the country. 

About You

We are seeking a creative self-starter with experience as an Investigative Reporter in a broadcast or digital (newspaper) environment in QLD, with a list of sources and contacts to match. You will have considerable experience breaking exclusive stories that have state-wide impact at the highest levels and hold all levels of government to account. You work well individually and collaborating in a team environment. You are also able to demonstrate an ongoing interest and passion in finding and telling stories that reflect Australia’s diversity. 

You will also have:

  • Ability to identify key talent and convince sources and contacts to participate in broadcast stories that will help resonate with ABC audiences across a wide demographic
  • Experience writing clear, concise copy and/or broadcast scripts and collaborating with a wider production team.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering complex issues in a way that both engages and informs audiences across a range of broadcast, digital and social platforms. Proven advanced understanding of how audience insights and analytics can inform innovative storytelling .
  • Advanced ability to utilise a variety of production techniques, including long-form digital and interactive presentations.
