Your new role
We are in search of an accomplished Isotope Geologist proficient in geochronology and computational geoscience who can bring their dedicated knowledge and experience to carry out world-leading, industry relevant and blue skies research.
The position will carry out research in geochronology and isotope geology to address a wide range of geological questions, including those that reduce exploration risk. The position will develop geochronology projects, involving some that address an industry need, analyse appropriate samples via mass spectrometry, develop computational techniques, and report findings in high quality peer-reviewed outputs. The position will contribute to research within the Timescales of Mineral Systems Group in the School of Earth and Planetary Sciences.
In this role you will:
•Use cutting edge mass spectrometry equipment housed within the John De Laeter Centre, Curtin to determine the age and isotopic signature of natural materials and address geological questions.
•Develop computational techniques to reduce isotope data to better understand past environments.
•Report findings via appropriate means, including peer-reviewed journal publications and (inter)national conferences
•Develop an externally-funded research portfolio through demand-driven (industry) and/or researcher-driven (competitive grants) income
•Contribute expertise to support research of other group members and students within the Timescales of Mineral Systems Group
•Contribute to teaching with the school as may be required, including supporting higher degree research students
You will have:
•A relevant postgraduate degree in geosciences or related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant work experience and/or education/training.
•Demonstrated expertise in mass spectrometry, analysis, data reduction, and programming skills.
•Demonstrated excellent organisational skills with the ability to organise time and work activities according to priorities and to meet deadlines.
•Demonstrated interpersonal and oral communication skills with the ability to consult and liaise effectively with a diverse range of people and with cross cultural sensitivity.
•Demonstrated effective written communication skills, with the ability to construct clear and concise correspondence and documentation, including preparation of reports and generation of high-quality peer reviewed research outputs.
•Proven ability to work well in a team, including respecting difference, leading, supporting others, accepting direction, and working to group goals.
•Demonstrated research and problem solving skills.
•Demonstrated ability to foster geoscience research education
Desirable Criteria:
•Previous work experience in a tertiary environment
•Experience with generating, handling, executing and delivering demand-driven research
•Proven experience in isotope data manipulation / interpretation
•Ability to write appropriate software code
•Understanding of statistical tools used in the geosciences
