About the role
Reporting into our General Counsel, you will play an integral role in advising executives and high calibre subject matter experts across the Sportsbet business with a focus on the Corporate departments. Depending on your particular background and expertise, the business units you support and advise may vary, and we’re flexible about moulding the right role for the right candidate.
You will act as a mentor and people leader to legal team members overseeing provision of legal advice to the departments (eg Marketing, Product, Finance, Tech, Customer Operations etc). The successful candidate will be commercially focused and provide strategic legal expertise to support business decision making and assist the business ensure its operations are conducted within acceptable parameters in Sportsbet’s core wagering focus, as well as its commitment to explore wider business opportunities and adjacencies (such as vision, content, data and free to play games).
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing advice (and managing advice provided by external lawyers) on legal and regulatory issues of importance to the business in a range of commercial and consumer law matters, regulatory and advertising complaints.
- Managing the end to end legal negotiation of key transactions and other commercial agreements (including major sponsorships with racing, sport and media partners, and M&A opportunities, etc).
- Regular touch points and working collaboratively with Flutter Entertainment on shared initiatives.
- Developing and leading corporate legal strategy as part of Legal, Risk and Compliance team to assist the business meet its strategic objectives.
About You
We’re looking for someone with:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate to people in a range of positions up to executive level
- As a minimum, 8+ years PAE within a senior people leader position at a leading top/mid tier firm in either commercial or regulatory practice areas, or equivalent in-house experience
- Strong legal drafting and negotiating skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and escalations.
- Experience in providing commercially focused legal support and innovative solutions
- Enthusiasm and passion for learning and development and who enjoys working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
