We pride ourselves on creating the best content, accessed by consumers when and how they want – across Publishing, Broadcasting and Digital.

Nine’s assets include the 9Network, major mastheads such as The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and The Australian Financial Review, radio stations 2GB, 3AW, 4BC and 6PR, digital properties such as nine.com.au, 9Now, 9Honey, Pedestrian.TV, Drive, subscription video platform Stan and a majority investment in Domain Group.

Our Purpose: We shape culture by sparking conversations, challenging perspectives, and entertaining our communities.

We bring people together by celebrating the big occasions and connecting the everyday moments. Australia belongs here. We bring our purpose to life via three shared values: We walk the talk, turn over every stone and keep it human.

Job Description

The Product team under Nine’s Publishing division is responsible for shaping the digital product experience for a wealth of properties visited by millions of Australians every day. We collaborate with partners from every part of Nine to understand audiences and create meaningful experiences that power Nine’s ambitious growth goals.

As a Junior-Mid Digital Product Designer you will join an agile team of problem solvers, helping to concept, design and build world class digital products. You will create compelling user experiences across web, native apps, and other distribution channels. You will work on our Metro brands, including The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian Financial Review and The Age, as well as Good Food and Traveller, Nine.com.au, and our bespoke authoring environment Ink. You will contribute to a number of different work streams aligned to your skill set and be given the opportunity to advance your design abilities across a range of disciplines.

Day to day you will:
Collaborate with product managers, technical and design research teams to help drive the best end user experience
Generate ideas and early concepts to explore product opportunities and solve problems
Produce a range of design artefacts including journey maps, wireframes, and prototypes
Work within and expand upon established design systems
Craft high-fidelity UI designs and work closely with engineers to deliver the final product
Communicate effectively and articulate your thinking to other team members
Seek input from team members to drive better design outcomes
Plan, develop and facilitate workshop sessions to collaboratively progress projects with various stakeholders across the business
Contribute to team culture through design reviews, brown bag sessions and team meet-ups

Qualifications

You will bring an insatiable appetite to learn and a willingness to continually try new ways of working. You thrive when you are part of a highly collaborative, motivated and high performing team, and enjoy working with a range of stakeholders to generate ideas while ensuring the right problems are being solved.

Here’s what you'll bring to the team:
Some experience in a hands-on Junior Digital Designer role where you have worked closely with developers to deliver UI designs
Experience using industry standard UI design tools, and knowledge of wireframing, design systems and prototyping tools
A keen eye for detail and an active interest in design trends and topics
An understanding of design patterns across multiple platforms
Excellent communication and storytelling
An understanding of human-centred design thinking
Experience facilitating and managing workshops and collaboration sessions

In return you will be supported to think beyond designs and prototypes, and to apply design thinking approaches to the product development lifecycle. You will be encouraged to develop skills to help you clearly define problems and frame your design decisions with rationale, data and research insights to increase the potential for product success.
