We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Spatial Officer / Hydrographic Assistant

to join our Hydrographic Survey Team based at Outer Harbor.

Role Overview

Reporting directly to the Survey Manager within Flinders Ports, the Junior Spatial Officer / Hydrographic Assistant is responsible for the timely and effective provision of support for survey operations, working from Marine environment to office-based data processing and GIS data input and system creation.

The ideal candidate will be proactive, decisive and action orientated while being able to achieve and deliver outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist with the maintenance of all survey equipment as required.

· Conduct/assist with Hydrographic Calibration

· Line keeping for survey operations

· Act as Online Surveyor onboard hydrographic vessel

· Assist in process hydrographic data set

· Create both Auto CAD and GIS Deliverables

· Drafting Survey reports for review for Chief Surveyor or Survey Manager for review

· Responsible to follow workplace procedures and set standards and has autonomy to make technical decisions within the scope of the qualification/field.

· Makes detailed recommendations in relation to area of expertise at a high level

· Other duties as required.

About you

You will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret survey techniques and equipment.

Desirable Qualifications

We are very open to develop our employees to understand Hydrographic Survey programs and at this stage we are seeking candidates with at least one of the following qualifications.

· Hydrographic Surveying qualification (Preferable IHO Cat B or AHSCP Level 2)

· Spatial Science Qualification (certificate/ Degree)

· Metocean Experience/ Qualification

· Environmental Science (Preference for Degree)

· Marine Science (Preference for Degree)

Essential Qualifications

· Sound computer literacy in Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications

· Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) or ability to gain.

Desirable Qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills

· Experience in terrestrial survey practices, using preferably Trimble GNSS, Total stations and Levels.

· Basic MBES processing

· Hydrographic watchkeeping experience

· Hydrographic system calibration experience

· GIS/ Auto CAD deliverable

· Basic IT skills for survey system integration

· Experience with deployment of Tidal and Oceanographic equipment

· An understanding of survey techniques and equipment.

· Ability to discharge duties with minimal supervision.

· Ability to consistently perform work of appropriate quality, maintain productivity and meet deadlines.

· Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

· A background in a marine environment, preferably with a Hydrographic experience

· Computer literacy in Word, Excel and Powerpoint applications.

· An understanding of the application of Work, Health and Safety legislation and its implications in the survey environment.

· Ability and willingness to assist in the development and implementation of new processes and procedures

This is permanent position with base hours of 37.5 hours per week. Due to the nature of the role flexibility of these hours of work will be required to accommodate operational needs.

Intra or interstate travel will be required.
