About the Role
The Faculty of Science is currently recruiting for Laboratory Assistant to join the Biosciences Health and Environment team on a full-time, fixed-term basis for 12 months. The Biosciences Health and Environment Laboratory Assistant provides a range of services to support the day-to-day operation of Biosciences Health and Environment research laboratories in the Faculty of Science. As part of the Biosciences, Environment & Health Research Technical Services Team, this position undertakes a range of support duties to assist the Faculty to achieve research objectives.
If successful for this role, some of your responsibilities will include:
- Restocking storerooms and laboratories with standard laboratory supplies and consumables
- Order standard laboratory supplies and consumables in compliance with UTS purchasing policy and procedures
- Maintaining general upkeep of the Biosciences laboratories
- Routine maintenance of cold storage equipment
- Sterilisation and disposal of biowaste
As the ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including ability to respond to changing circumstances and critical situations
- Ability to identify and escalate problems
- Knowledge and experience in the application of Work Health & Safety, and Equity & Diversity principles and policies
- Completion of a Certificate III or above in Science; or equivalent understanding of scientific principles and relevant work experience
- Experience working in a PC2 laboratory (desirable)
Remuneration
Base Salary Range: $62,933 to $71,746 (HEW 3)
This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.
