Utilise your experience as a multi-site Laboratory Manager in a highly regulated industry to lead a high performing team. Your commitment to safety and quality as well as your leadership skills will set you up for success in this role.
  • National remit, responsible for the overall laboratory standards in 20 facilities to ensure the business meets product specifications and day to day product quality.
  • Full P&L accountability and a large team of 3 direct and 180 indirect reports this role will aim to grow external revenue by promoting Laboratory Services, expanding opportunities, and building on the organisations proven ability to provide customers with strong technical solutions.
  • Support the standardisation and optimisation initiatives on our 40 aggregate and asphalt field labs.

Due to internal promotion, they are looking for a Laboratory Services Manager to join the team to be based in either Sydney or Melbourne.
  
So, what will you bring?
  
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field.
  • Extensive experience in multi-site laboratory management in a highly regulated industry.
  • Proven safety leadership including implementation of best practice initiatives.
  • Extensive experience leading people and teams.
  • Strong commercial acumen and experience managing a large P&L.
  • Strong understanding of NATA accreditation requirements.
  
Your key responsibilities will include:
  
Laboratory Management
  • Work with regional leadership teams, engage laboratory employees with support from HSE functional teams, to reduce the rate of serious harm incidents, potential serious harm frequency rate and serious environmental frequency rate.
  • Work with the Technical Services leadership team to develop plans to identify and implement laboratory best practice and standardisation.
  • Deliver improved laboratory performance as measured by agreed KPI’s.
  • Work closely with the Technical, Operations and Sales teams to ensure Technical Services understand customer needs and expectations.
  • Actively seek opportunities for generating external revenue of laboratories.
  
Safety and Environment
  • Demonstrate visible leadership to achieve culture of Zero Harm (safety, environment, and communities) across all sites and teams.
  • Promote a strong safety culture that aligns to safety initiatives and programs.
  • Work with leadership teams, engage front line employees with support from HSE functional teams, to reduce the rate of actual serious harm incidents, potential serious harm frequency rate and serious environmental incident frequency rate.
  
Strategy
  • Participate in the process of setting the vision and future success factors that ensure future business performance is sustained with improved profitability.
  • Translate strategies into practical performance targets to ensure delivery of the strategy.
  • Ensure the Industrial Relations strategy is aligned to the advancement of the product line’s goals and objectives.
  
People & Culture
  • Champion and role model company values and principles. Ensure purpose, ambition, and values are well understood and integrated into processes and systems across Asphalt.
  • Work with teams, front line employees and People, Change & Culture team to deliver alignment with, and understanding of, performance including clarity on accountabilities and responsibilities.
  
Operations Performance, & Efficiency
  • Effectively use operations excellence to nurture ideas, develop strategies, and invest in continuous improvement.
  • Actively use operational excellence to optimise laboratories, nurture ideas and invest in continuous improvement.
  
Financial & Reporting
  • Responsible for cost and maintenance budgets and anticipates and drives corrective actions to ensure targets are met.
  • Laboratory P&L accountability.
  • Identify ways to effectively increase external revenue.
  
Capital Management
  • Develop business case and capital expenditure propositions to support business outcomes.
  • Ensure appropriate governance is followed for capital project approvals.
  
Customer
  • Work with the appropriate sales, operations and product solutions and development to ensure provision of product and service to customer needs and expectations, providing a seamless customer experience.
  • Work with internal and external customers to improve, standardise and optimise field testing and lab services.
  • Respond to customer challenges and issues in a timely manner, with specific focus on turnaround time of laboratory results.
  
Compliance
  • Ensure all compliance obligations for IR, H&S, Welfare and Environment, Statutory (EPA & PIRSA) are met.
  • Meet all NATA compliance requirements.
