The Role
Reddam House invites applications to join us as a Science Laboratory Technician. We are looking for a permanent full-time employee to join a young and vibrant Science department (High School), as soon as possible or at the beginning of Term 3, 2024. The position will be based on the North Bondi campus and will be worked during term time only.
The main responsibilities of this position include:
- Maintain all science Labs and equipment in good working condition, arrange repair and/or replacement if needed.
- Prepare science labs and resources for all class experiments and practical assessment tasks.
- Help distribute and collect equipment if required (referring to the Experiment Request Form). Correctly dispose dangerous or toxic chemicals in compliance with the safety regulations.
- Conduct general cleaning and tidying duties associated with science experiments within both the prep room and class rooms, including cleaning of sinks after an experiment, washing and tidying of glassware, electric equipment, etc.
- Produce, store and supply teachers with MSDS sheets for all chemicals used in experiments. Correctly label all the chemicals and solution with safety colour code in compliance with the safety requirements.
- Maintain a Science Equipment/Material Database and update it on a regular basis.
Essential Requirements:
- Experience working within a science laboratory in an educational environment.
- A diploma or certificate course in laboratory skills is desirable.
- Ability to be flexible and provide support to the science teachers when needed.
- Great organisation skills to help streamline a growing department.
- Must have the right to work in Australia.
- Must have a valid Working with Children Clearance (WWCC).
