Land Survey Technician – Rural Fibre Design

The Client:
Our client manages and operates telecommunication infrastructure, including networks and assets. They provide services related to the maintenance, development, and leasing of these assets to other companies in the telecoms industry.
These fibre networks span long distances across Australia, connecting major cities, regional areas, and remote locations. The fibre networks are used to transmit data, voice, and video traffic for a variety of telecommunications services, including internet access, mobile communications, and enterprise networking.
Our clients fibre networks are designed for high performance, reliability, and scalability to meet the growing demands of the digital economy.
 
Role Purpose:
Provide Optic Fibre Design Solutions for our Customers by performing a range of Optic Fibre Network Design activities in both the Field and Office/WFH environments, including but not limited to surveying cable routes, identifying property boundaries, consultation and negotiation with landowners and other stakeholders, the preparation of spatially corrected detailed AUTOCAD ‘For Construction’ plans, assisting with/contributing to material ordering, generation of Land Access & Activity Notices and associated tasks, on site liaison with Specialists and other interested parties.
 
Key Accountabilities:
  • Undertake route identification / site surveys to determine Optic Fibre network requirements in accordance with company standards and applicable legislation.
  • When required, identify property / land ownership boundaries through application of cadastral survey knowledge and experience to ensure compliance with land access notification requirements as per legislation.
  • Identify, peg and survey optic fibre cable route establishing the most economical buildable route.
  • Accurately and efficiently contribute to completion of detailed designs, cost estimates and feasibility studies, including the provision of material and necessary network re-arrangement requirements within delivery targets.
  • Maintain the clients database and contribute to overall cost-effective solutions for network build, rearrangements, and cutovers.
  • Undertake positive engagement and consultation with property / utility owners & occupiers ensuring Land Access & Activity processes are followed.
  • Build effective relationships with customer and stakeholder groups to allow timely delivery of customer services.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to support increased operating efficiency and customer focus.
  • Accurately and efficiently produce complex optic fibre detailed designs, feasibility studies, including provision of vendor material.
  • Share surveying technical knowledge and skills to the team, particularly in the technical design and implementation of customer specific solutions.
  • Contribute to the production and review design processes in accordance with current Business rules and quality process.
  • Work with specialists, Traditional Owner groups, sub-contractors, project management, construction operations staff and local authorities as necessary while in the field.
  • Prioritise your safety and maintain network integrity at all times.
 
Technical Capabilities:
  • Knowledge of Network Architecture: A basic knowledge telecommunications network architecture, construction practices
  • Experience in Technical Environment: Demonstrated experience in a technical environment with an understanding of design and construction activities, technical standards and workflow and measurement processes.
  • Databases & Processes: Demonstrated ability to learn, maintain and update all associated Databases used in the delivery of construction designs.
  • Presentation and reporting: Ability to produce detailed reports utilising available IT systems.
  • Motivation: Self-motivated and enthusiastic with a proactive nature and a commitment to achieving results.
  • Stakeholder Management: You will be capable of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peer groups and key internal stakeholders and where applicable manage key external stakeholders relevant to the achievement of business objectives.
 
Qualifications:
  • Certificate III Or Certificate IV Or Diploma In Surveying.
  • 5 Years Post Qualification Relevant Industry Experience.
  • Extensive AutoCAD 2D Drafting Experience.
