An exciting opportunity for a Lawyer to support our CTP QLD injury team. You will provide legal advice and support to Suncorp's Insurance businesses. The successful candidate will have in-depth experience across the Qld CTP scheme including indemnity, liability, assessment of damages and general litigation support.

What you'll do
  • Providing legal support with complex claims and advising on issues including compliance, indemnity, liability, fraud, quantum and limitation periods.
  • Drafting Submissions
  • Providing verbal and strategic advice to Insurance claims under the Motor Accident Insurance Act 1994.
  • Dispute resolution and litigation support driving matters to expeditious, commercially and legally appropriate outcomes.
  • Advise on the implications of regulatory change and key legal decisions.
  • Provide legal support to other jurisdictions including public liability and NSW CTP.
  • Actively identify matters which have the potential to significantly impact the Group's interests and ensure appropriate escalation of such matters.
  • Partner with the business to simplify complex legal problems into concepts that can be easily understood.

  • Actively promote a 'one team' approach across the Legal & Secretariat community.
  • Operate with minimal supervision.
  • Proactively manage and minimise external legal spend, ensuring the Group receives value for the services provided and providers are held to account.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives that lead to operational efficiencies.
  • Operate within relevant approved Risk Appetite Statements including complying with all laws, regulations and policies.
What you'll bring
  • Tertiary qualifications in Law - Mandatory
  • Current Practising Certificate - Mandatory
  • Admission as a Solicitor or Barrister in any Australian Court - Mandatory
  • Minimum 5-10 years relevant legal experience - Mandatory
  • Experience in insurance and financial services - Desired
  • Experience in a major law firm or as in-house counsel - Desired
  • Comprehensive understanding of the provision of legal services.
  • Strong customer service and relationship management focus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work across a broad spectrum of matters and jurisdictions and a willingness to leverage existing skills in new areas.
  • Ability to deal with confidential or sensitive information in a discrete and professional manner.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Highly ethical behaviour consistent with Suncorp's model litigant policy and values.
