Job description

Edalex powers organisations’ single source of truth for skills, credentials and learning data. Founded in 2016, we develop education technology solutions that connect disparate systems and make educational data accessible and more meaningful.

We live and breathe our values:

  • All hands on deck: Teamwork is at our core and is a key ingredient to our ongoing success as a growing company – internally and externally. We engage closely with our partners long-term to collaborate and co-create.
  • Two steps ahead: Anticipating opportunities and risks enable us to exceed expectations and develop innovative, dynamic and scalable EdTech platforms that are truly differentiated.
  • Build trust: Trust and respect go hand-in-hand, and it’s built over time through our actions. We strive to establish the most effective partnerships in education and deliver multi-layered win-win solutions.
  • Get up and dance!: Life’s too short to not have some fun along the way! You don’t have to be a good dancer (we’re not!) to be up for a fun adventure.

Edalex brings together the team behind the CODiE award-winning openEQUELLA open source platform that centrally houses teaching and learning, research, media and library content.  In 2019, Edalex launched Credentialate - a Credential Evidence Platform that increases the power and meaning of digital credentials and discovers and shares evidence of skills from learning. openRSD was released by Edalex in 2022 to help create, store and share rich skill descriptors (RSDs) and RSD collections - it’s now the world’s largest open library of RSDs. We received seven awards from around the world in 2023, and 4 so far in 2024!

We’re looking for the right person to join our growing software development team, leading a small team for one of our platforms! This is a great opportunity for someone seeking a balanced role combining team leadership while also actively coding. That person has proven workplace experience leading and working in a team. We've got a fun and productive office in Hobart, plus flexibility to work from home (local to Hobart only). We offer our Employee Share Option Plan (ESOP), alongside quarterly professional development days, team events and more. Edalex is an energetic, focused, smart and fun team looking to make a real impact. Wanna help?

Key skills and experience:

  • 10+ years of experience with agile software development, including Java
  • 2+ years of proven team leadership skills
  • Expertise with web-based technologies including HTML5, JS and REST
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as Jira and GitHub/GitLab
  • Data security and privacy awareness and experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact directly with clients

Ideal experience:

  • Experience with Groovy, React and Micronaut
  • UI/UX experience in a commercial environment, particularly Material Design, driving user-centric design
  • Sound knowledge of AWS services, including experience with serverless application and API development leveraging AWS Lambda
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems and other educational technologies
  • Experience in engaging with a blended local and offshore development team
  • Experience working within an ISO 27001 certified environment

Who are we looking for:

  • Based in Hobart, with a hybrid offering of working from our office and working from home
  • Positive and engaged team member
  • Self-motivated and ready to hit the ground running, collaborating with a team of like-minded individuals
  • Willingness to get up and dance (at least figuratively): joining in team activities, volunteering (Edalex has joined the 1% Pledge) and regular events.
