Lead Devops Engineer

About the Role

MaxMine is looking for a Lead Engineer to join our team and grow our DevOps Engineering capability. Our platform uses large scale data pipelines, distributed systems and real-time streaming to deliver insights to our customers with completeness and accuracy. To us, data is critical.

As the Lead DevOps Engineer you will be responsible for leading a team in providing a platform for other teams enabling them to move fast and deliver value securely to our customers. You’ll get to work with a range of cutting edge technologies including Kubernetes, Terraform, and more modern cloud tools.

About You

You have demonstrated experience operating as a senior team member in the cloud or DevOps teams and you’re looking for an opportunity to step up and own our cloud platform operations. There is significant scope for learning and development, as well as the chance to meaningfully shape how we do things with new and innovative approaches leveraging your prior experience and knowledge.

You will

• Lead the discovery and implementation of platform services from inception and design, through deployment, operation, and refinement.
• Develop and improve tooling for our cloud platform in support of our data, IOT and product development teams
• Support services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning, and launch reviews.
• Implement security best practices throughout our cloud platform and ensure that effective management of risks is undertaken
• Maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health.
• Join our On-Call rotation (once you are fully onboarded).

You have

• 5+ years of experience working in software engineering or DevOps roles or equivalent demonstrated development experience
• Experience programming with Python or a similar scripting language
• Experience with AWS cloud
• Experience in supporting Unix/Linux operating systems via containerisation
• Experience in managing the delivery of a work stream
• Knowledge of software development processes including CI/CD
• Knowledge of security practices in cloud environments
• An understanding of Unix/Linux operating systems

These would be a bonus

• Experience with Terraform or similar IaC platform
• Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, and/or ArgoCD
• Familiarity with modern Observability and Site Reliability Engineering practices
• A systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with effective communication skills and a sense of drive

Our Technology

We work with a range of technologies across the full spectrum of dev-ops and data-science. Our platform is based on;

• AWS Cloud / Terraform
• Kubernetes (AWS EKS)
• Python and Go Microservices
• Apache Kafka, Apache Flink and MQTT streaming data systems
• Snowflake, dbt, and Dagster orchestration

You don’t need to know all of the above, but need to be willing and able to learn. There is also scope to bring new technologies to our platform team where they fit within our existing technology and can demonstrate business value.

MaxMine is an automated business improvement product which performs advanced analytics and data science on mining operational data to deliver significant cost savings and productivity gains to global miners, with the aim of accelerating the sustainability of humanity’s scarce resources. We apply engineering science and mathematics to operational data that we collect with our hardware. We store and analyse this data via our cloud platform and deliver results straight into client’s operations.
