The opportunity

As interim deputy to the Director, you will be responsible for leading the successful delivery of Health and Safety advisory service, which provides services to staff and the University in the development, implementation, review, and continual improvement to and effective, efficient, and responsive health and safety systems. The incumbent will lead a team of health and safety professionals, oversee processes and procedures, providing specialist advice to senior leadership and collaborating with line managers to ensure Health and Safety standards are embedded within the workforce.

You will drive the development of a curious safety culture, navigating practice and legislative changes with precision through tailored services and cutting-edge expertise and best practice. As a visionary leader of our Health & Safety Team, you will orchestrate both strategic initiatives and day-to-day operations to ensure unwavering operational excellence and a trajectory of continuous improvement, including continuing to build a high performing team.

Key requirements

The successful candidate will possess extensive experience in leadership roles, particularly in leading teams, working with a variety of stakeholders, and  a passion for continual improvement.

A deep understanding of legislative requirements, including the Work Health Safety Act 2020 and Occupational Safety and Health Regulations (General) 2020, is essential. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are a must, with a proven ability to develop policy documents, procedures, and high-quality reports.

Proficiency in resource management and the ability to navigate complex issues while meeting deadlines in a dynamic team environment are key attributes we are seeking.
