Job description

We're seeking a Lead ITS Operations Engineer to help change how we travel.

You'll be a key member of an innovative, world leading Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) team developing the brightest ideas and most inspired engineering into safer, more efficient, and more sustainable Transport Technology solutions.

Leading a team of talented subject matter experts, the Lead ITS Operations Engineer you will be part of a highly innovative team, who are responsible for ongoing support, maintenance and minor upgrade of NSW's asset Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Plan ITS upgrades and major projects are all a big part of this role. Reporting directly to the ITS Operations Manager, the Lead ITS Operations Engineer has a range of responsibilities including:
  • Leading a dynamic ITS Operations team, monitoring and maintaining critical operational safety control systems and information technology systems, ensuring the smooth and safe flow of traffic over Sydney's traffic corridor.
  • Providing regular leadership, mentoring, coaching and development to a team of ITS Operations Engineers.
  • Working together, you'll provide guidance and direction to sub-contractors and other teams, to resolve and escalate system faults, conduct maintenance and restoration works.
  • You'll act as a technical escalation point and provide 1st and 2nd level support to our Traffic Control Room and Operations Centre - you'll maintain applications, client operation systems, desktop equipment, server equipment, specialized systems including virtualized and physical ITS infrastructure, PABX, data network equipment, CCTV equipment, Traffic Flow Systems, PLCs and SCADA control systems.
You'll make sure all our roads are ready for what's next, with ongoing lifecycle maintenance of our systems.

This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including:

  • You'll have demonstrated experience of supporting SCADA/Industrial Control/critical safety system experience or PLC control systems.
  • You've worked in a similar role maintaining critical systems in electrical, electronic or IT system support.
  • You've completed your TAFE or trade qualifications in Systems, Electrical, Electronic so you know your stuff.
  • Effective stakeholder management experience, particularly in managing multiple external parties (including government, D&C contractors and subcontractors) to deliver outcomes.
  • Analytical and incisive, you'll spot issues and use your own ingenuity - and that of your team - to solve problems collaboratively.
