Our client is a business that has a rapidly growing team pioneering the development of autonomous farming technology. Their mission is to revolutionise farming around the world by introducing new farming practices that are enabled by robotic technology. They are a venture backed company with global ambition and are proudly based in regional Australia with deep connection to their farmer customers. Their robots are already working on grain, cotton, horticulture and turf farms and are one of the first companies worldwide to successfully deliver commercial, autonomous robots to farming customers.
Currently they are looking for a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, based in Emerald to be responsible for the following duties:
- Lead the design and development of mechanical systems for agricultural robots. This includes project management, concept ideation to detailed design, prototyping, and testing.
- Manage, mentor and foster collaboration, innovation, and professional growth within the design team. Set clear objectives, provide guidance, and ensure project timelines and milestones are met.
- Collaborate closely with software, electrical, and systems engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components with other subsystems. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential.
- Oversee the fabrication of prototypes and conduct rigorous testing to validate design concepts. Analyse test results, troubleshoot issues, and iterate designs for optimization.
- Maintain CAD libraries, establishing best practices for version control, and implementing protocols for collaboration among team members. Utilise CAD software to create detailed 3D models, FEA analysis, drawings and documentation of mechanical components and assemblies. Ensure designs meet quality and manufacturing standards.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve the performance, efficiency, and manufacturability of mechanical systems. Implement design changes based on feedback and emerging technologies.
- Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers for sourcing components, materials, and manufacturing processes. Evaluate vendor capabilities to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in Mechanical Design and engineering, preferably in agricultural equipment or mobile machinery.
- Strong proficiency in CAD software (Inventor, AutoCAD) and other engineering tools.
- Leadership experience with a track record of managing and mentoring engineering teams.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and fabrication techniques.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A passion for innovation and a genuine interest in sustainable agriculture and robotics.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic and rapidly evolving work environment.
