Our Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity to join Fortescue Metals Corporate Development team as a Lead Principal Corporate Development. In this role you will be accountable for supporting the Group Manager Corporate Development to identify, pursue and negotiate a variety of transactions including acquisitions, joint ventures and partnerships. Your remit will span the full Metals business and include value accretive opportunities both in the Pilbara, to improve our existing iron ore operations, and also globally across various commodities. Reporting to the GM Corporate Development, you will be part of a small high performing team and work closely with other functions including Strategy, Exploration, Technical, Finance and Legal.
Work Location: Fortescue's East Perth office, located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.
Roster: Monday to Friday
The successful candidate, especially if residing outside of WA, should be prepared to relocate promptly to Perth upon selection.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertaking financial modelling and valuation activities including working closely with technical experts and incorporating due diligence findings.
- Researching, screening and closely following merger and acquisition activity in the metals sector, including identify market trends and position Fortescue to participate in merger and acquisition activity.
- Maintaining databases and registers that support monitoring and analysing potential opportunities.
- Leading aspects of a transaction and supporting due diligence activities.
- Assisting with the preparation of high quality investment decision papers and reports for Executives and the Board.
- Participating and contributing to investment decision steering committees with Executives.
- Assisting in the successful integration of acquisitions, collaborating with other support functions.
Qualifications and Experience
- A tertiary degree in a business / finance related field.
- Experience in investment banking, private equity, corporate finance or other business development / corporate transactional roles in a global and fast-paced organisation, preferably in resources, heavy industry, energy or infrastructure.
- Proven due diligence and/or valuation skills.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills and strong financial and commercial acumen.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build strong relationships and influence key stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
