Position of Leadership

Parade College is a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition. The College aims to help young men grow into well-rounded individuals who will make a meaningful contribution to society. Parade College is the oldest Edmund Rice School in Australia, dating back to 1871, and has a proud history of excellence in the education and pastoral care of young men. The College is pleased to announce, our VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) program at Parade College will become co-educational in 2025. The College will welcome full-time female student enrolments for the first time in our long history at Year 11.  Starting in Term 1 2025,our VCE Vocational Major program, based at our Preston campus, will be expanding our student offerings by introducing a new Tertiary Pathways Program. The Tertiary Pathways Program will include a second stream of our highly successful Sport Academy, along with a new Business Academy. Both academies will provide a bespoke educational opportunity that will allow students to gain direct entry into a number of undergraduate tertiary courses at La Trobe University upon completion of the two-year course.  (This exciting initiative is subject to final approval by VRQA)

Job Description

The College is committed to a whole school approach to literacy, and to enacting differentiated literacy learning for our diverse student cohort. Each learning area has specific disciplinary literacy demands encompassing the five modes: speaking, listening, reading, viewing, and writing. Each mode is taught and assessed explicitly by all teachers. Staff at Parade College share a common language for literacy learning across subjects, and apply a systematic and consistent approach to supportive literacy instruction. 

Informed by the College Mission statement and the College’s Vision for Literacy, the Leader of Literacy will provide support and guidance to staff, in the development and implementation of the latest literacy initiatives to enhance programs that support the learning needs of all students with specific literacy needs.

Applications are invited for the position of Leader of Literacy from suitably qualified, highly motivated, collaborative and innovative educational leaders with a passion for Catholic Education in the Edmund Rice Tradition and the safety and wellbeing of children.

Well versed in contemporary teaching and research, the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate and discuss how they use data to drive improved student learning. Well organised, emotionally intelligent and in possession of excellent communication skills, the successful applicant will have a deep affinity for and understanding of the educative needs of boys’ in secondary education. 

The successful candidate for this position will commence January 2025.  The leadership appointment is for a two year term, with an ongoing teaching position associated with this appointment. This leadership position attracts a Position of Leadership Allowance and generous time release per cycle.
