The Leading Hand assists with the management of warehousing and despatch activities on site. The role assists the Warehousing and Despatch Manager to ensure warehousing activities are conducted in accordance with best management practices whilst maintaining a commercial focus.
Duties of the Leading Hand can include:
- Delegate tasks to direct reports in line with skill, knowledge and ability and where necessary identify skill gaps and training requirements
- On an ongoing basis, monitor the progress of employees in order to determine suitability for work
- Manage timeframes for work orders or projects
- Lead and participate in toolbox meetings
- Make self available as coach/mentor in assisting direct reports to develop in their positions
- Maintain appropriate timekeeping data to ensure correct payments. (Including leave forms)
- Liaise with other departments as required
- Support HSE and Quality Representatives as required.
- Quality control
- Perform basic computer tasks
- Willingly accept other duties that are within capability
- Safely operate a forklift
In determining suitability for the role, the following criteria are considered essential:
- Prior experience in a similar position
- Demonstrated ability to lead by example
- Current LF Forklift Licence
