HBT Waratah is responsible for the overhauls of longwall machinery, Waratah OEM Equipment and general Mining equipment overhauls.
Position purpose:
The Leading Hand Electrician is responsible for maintenance and repair of underground mining equipment including shuttle cars, miners, multi bolters and shearers. They ensure that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
The Leading Hand Electrician will be responsible for:
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of electricians and apprentices.
- Assign tasks and projects to team members based on skill level and workload.
- Provide guidance and support to team members as needed.
- Monitor progress and ensure deadlines are met.
- Enforce safety regulations and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and address any hazards or violations.
- Ensure that all team members are trained in safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to resolve complex electrical issues.
- Assist with troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical problems.
- Communicate effectively with team members, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other departments as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
- Trade skills and knowledge of electrical repair and installation procedures.
- Minimum 5 years experience in new / overhaul and repair off underground mining equipment.
- Current AS3800 certificate.
- Able to diagnose and resolve electrical equipment and installation issues
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience in a supervisory role preferred.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, codes, and regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in reading schematics and technical manuals.
- Sound computer literacy in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ERP systems experience.
- Valid Driver’s Licence.
- Qualified supervisor or contractor licence
