ABOUT THE OFFICE
The National School of Arts and Sciences is one of two national schools in the Faculty of Arts, Sciences, Law and Business. The National School is based on two distinct campuses in Fremantle and Sydney. The School of Arts and Sciences delivers a practical, ethical and industry-focused education in diverse areas of study such as the liberal arts, communications and media, counselling and science, with a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs on offer.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The School of Arts & Sciences offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Counselling, both as stand-alone programs and as electives within the BA Arts. We are seeking an academically qualified candidate with experience in tertiary education and ongoing engagements with Counselling organisations and accrediting bodies to join the School on our Sydney campus. The appointee will deliver courses and contribute to research in the discipline area within a full-time loading, although we are happy to consider part-time arrangements for suitable candidates.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials and other classes as relevant.
  • Initiate and develop course and program material informed by contemporary developments in Counselling.
  • Undertake course coordination.
  • Supervise honours or postgraduate research projects.
  • Conduct research (Teaching and Research Scholar only).
  • Develop program material with appropriate advice from and support of more senior staff.
  • Undertake marking, assessment, and moderation.
  • Undertake consultation with students.
  • Undertake a range of administrative functions, the majority of which relate to the courses in which the academic teaches.
  • Attend departmental and/or faculty meetings and/or membership of relevant committees.
  • Other duties as identified by the Line Manager / Supervisor.
  • Comply with policies and procedures in all aspects of their work and conduct.
Qualifications & Experience
  • A PhD in Psychology in addition to an APAC accredited psychology program of study.
  • Registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
  • Board approved supervisor status from the Psychology Board of Australia with experience in clinical supervision.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, APAC accreditation standards to curriculum development and implementation.
  • Experience in teaching in Counselling or related disciplines at the tertiary level, with a preference for Course (subject) coordination
  • Professional Experience in Counselling and/or related fields.
Knowledge, skills & abilities
  • Proven ability to prepare, coordinate and deliver high quality teaching and learning in undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including the ability to produce curriculum informed by contemporary developments in social justice and related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated track record of quality research or research potential in the field, relative to the level.
  • Demonstrated capacity to supervise student research.
  • Demonstrated commitment to cultural awareness, safety and security, especially when engaging professionally with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
