About the Role
Join us as a Lecturer and make a significant impact in the fields of agricultural and Agribusiness economics. You will contribute to both undergraduate and graduate programs, including the Agribusiness Specialisation of the Master of Agricultural Science and Master of Food Science degrees, as well as the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness major of the Bachelor of Agriculture. Develop engaging teaching materials and collaborate with businesses in the agribusiness value chain to create compelling case studies.

Additionally, you will establish a robust research program focusing on Australian and international agricultural, farm, and Agribusiness economics, working closely with colleagues and external partners to drive innovative projects in finance and risk.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Design and develop curriculum in areas of agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, farm management economics, agricultural finance, quantitative methods and decision-making under risk and uncertainty that complement and build on the existing strengths of the School.
  • Prepare and deliver high quality lectures, tutorials and seminars as appropriate
  • Provide academic mentoring and assistance to students Coordinate and conduct student field trips to farms and Agribusinesses
  • Conduct internationally competitive research in the social and institutional dimensions of agricultural and environmental systems change .
  • Contribute to and publish academic papers and other scholarly outputs to a high academic standard in accordance with the research expectations of the University of Melbourne.

Who We Are Looking For
You will have experience supervising research students and excellent interpersonal and communication skills for building positive relationships with staff, collaborators, and students. Additionally, you will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and collegially within a diverse workforce.

You will also have:

  • Completion of a PhD in Agricultural Economics, farm economics or agribusiness.
  • A thorough knowledge of Australian agriculture and global agricultural markets and Agribusiness plus a depth of experience working with farmers to conduct case studies and analyse and solve problems, to identify and analyse research questions, and to develop teaching content about agricultural value chains, Agricultural Economics, marketing, finance and risk.
  • Experience in applying quantitative methods to agricultural data for use in Agricultural, farm and Agribusiness economic analysis and experience in the application of stochastic simulation modelling.
  • Demonstrated experience, relative to opportunity, in developing engaging undergraduate and graduate teaching programs
  • Demonstrated experience engaging and fostering relationships with relevant agricultural, Economics and Agribusiness professionals and industry bodies and stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify and contribute to the attraction of grants and external income.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
