About the Role
Join a vibrant community dedicated to advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education internationally. As a Lecturer, you'll be at the forefront of Indigenous education and research in Australia, playing a pivotal role in its future. You'll spearhead initiatives that foster Indigenous knowledge and awareness, contribute significantly to subject and course development, supervise postgraduate research, and forge collaborations across the University and beyond. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop innovative teaching approaches, mentor colleagues and influence policy, all while making a lasting contribution to the global Indigenous research landscape.Your responsibilities will include:
  • Shaping the future of Indigenous education through the design and delivery of innovative Indigenous education programs (including online and blended learning), developing new courses, and providing expert teaching across the Faculty. You'll also play a key role in fostering scholarship and best practices through professional development and mentoring colleagues.
  • Advancing Indigenous scholarship and research by actively contributing to research projects, publishing impactful research in leading publications, and supervising postgraduate students. You'll have the opportunity to influence the strategic direction of Indigenous education on a national and international scale.
  • Forging partnerships and influencing policy. Building strong partnerships with Indigenous communities and schools. You'll be a key advocate for the University and the discipline, actively promoting it and influencing policy and practice through participation in conferences, committees, securing funding, and external collaborations.
Who We Are Looking For

You'll demonstrate a deep understanding of the importance of cultural competency, working effectively with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous colleagues to achieve shared goals. You will possess a deep understanding of Indigenous education's cultural and socio-economic contexts, coupled with a proven track record of impactful research and publication in the field. With successful teaching experience in diverse educational settings, you'll excel in planning and implementing evidence-based learning interventions, demonstrating high-quality teaching in higher education environments. Your ability to coordinate subjects, conduct professional practice visits, and collaborate effectively within research and teaching teams, supported by excellent organisational and interpersonal skills will see you excel in this position.You will also have:
  • A PhD/EdD (completed or near completion) in a relevant field with experience OR possess extensive experience and broad knowledge of Indigenous education, OR demonstrate an equivalent combination of relevant experience and qualifications.
  • Deep expertise in Indigenous education specifically the factors that have shaped Indigenous education in Australia.
  • A proven research and teaching background including a strong track record of successful research in Australian Indigenous education with publications of national impact, combined with experience in delivering high-quality teaching in higher education settings.
  • Experience in curriculum development and program management, with expertise in planning, implementing, and evaluating learning interventions, along with the ability to undertake subject and course coordination duties.
