We have a generous holiday package; plus the opportunity to buy more, great pension schemes and a number of health and wellbeing initiatives to support you.Closing Date: 26 June 2024The RoleNewcastle Law School seeks to appoint a Lecturer (Grade F) in Public Law to join our forward thinking, inclusive Russell Group Law School that seeks to embed its values in all that it does: Challenge; Social Justice; Compassion; Wellbeing; Excellence; Responsibility; and Respect.This is a 12 month fixed term teaching and research post required to help cover temporary teaching needs in Constitutional Law and Administrative Law and Human Rights. Your research should engage with socially relevant and important questions that address current and future problems. A willingness to collaborate across legal fields and disciplines is also desirable.Newcastle Law School is a globally connected, locally rooted and compassionate community.   • To provide high quality research led teaching activity
  • To supervise dissertation students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level (commensurate with experience)
  • Mentor and support students throughout their studies in the role of personal tutor
  • Set and mark assessment of modules in accordance with university standards and utilise on-line and digitised curricula and education frameworks
  • Contribute to curriculum development
  • Provide education for life, that engages, challenges and supports our students to discover and fulfil their potential both while they are studying with us and once they have graduated
Research
  • Conduct research that demonstrates international standards of excellence in terms of originality, signifigance and rigour.
  • Contribute to the research profile of Newcastle Law School by publishing high quality outputs
Other
  • Operate as an active citizen in the Newcastle Law School community
  • Have a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and an understanding of how individual behaviour can contribute to a positive research and education culture
  • Undertake a range of administrative tasks to support your area of teaching, research and/or engagement
  • Take responsibility for a defined citizenship or leadership role
The PersonKnowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Evidence or the potential to provide an outstanding educational experience, rooted in strong disciplinary knowledge that engages, challenges, and inspires our students
  • Ability to deliver research-led teaching, making effective use of technology to enhance learning
  • Experience of or capability to publish high quality research
  • Evidence of a developing national/international research profile
  • Evidence of ability to contribute to the research community of the Law School
  • Ability to supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate students’ research projects (commensurate with experience)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organisational, time management and presentation skills
  • Demonstration of successful team working
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
Desirable
  • Ability to teach constitutional and administrative and human rights law essential; ability to contribute to the teaching of other law modules on the LLB
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary working
Qualifications
  • A good Honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject
  • PhD (or equivalent) at or near completion (strictly within three months of submission at time of application) in a relevant subject
Desirable
  • A relevant Professional Body Membership as appropriate to the subject area
  • HE teaching qualification (or equivalent experience)
