About the role:
We are seeking a dedicated Legal Counsel to join our team and play a crucial role in protecting our legal interests ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for assisting the General Counsel in ensuring operations and business activities are conducted in line with international best practice and within the limits prescribed by law. You will also support the activities of the Legal, Risk, Compliance & Governance teams in educating the organisation and ensuring company information and client communications are accurate and meet the Fund’s legal obligations.
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality and timely legal advice to the business, addressing emerging legal issues that impact the Fund. Your expertise will be vital in navigating complex legal landscapes.
- Reviewing and drafting updated member communications, marketing materials and press releases to ensure they are accurate and meet with the Fund’s legal obligations.
- Monitoring and analysing proposed and new legislation and regulatory developments from process, product and systems perspectives.
- Researching and drafting papers and policies for Board and Committee consideration, under the supervision and guidance of the General Counsel.
- Developing fact sheets and guidance notes for use by member-facing staff.
- Assisting with the development of, and undertaking, internal staff training sessions and programs.
- Assist the General Counsel in managing litigation.
- Any other reasonable duties as requested by the General Counsel.
About you:
- Demonstrated experience in a legal or highly regulated environment is desirable.
- Sound knowledge of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and/or Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act 1993 (Cth) will be advantageous.
- Degree in Law and Legal Practice.
- A current practicing certificate in Law.
