The Role

This is a Part-time role for a Student Engineer supporting activities to assess the cradle to grave environmental footprint of one of our products.

Your key responsibilities will include (with support from experienced professional engineers), but are not limited to:

  • Assess the weight and material composition of components and assemblies
  • Assessing the real life energy usage of an instrument
  • Maintaining a database of components and their properties
  • Liaising with other departments to estimate resource usage to build an instrument
  • Liaising with consultants to assist with generating an environmental report
  • Generating progress reports
  • Extracting Country of Origin information from internal systems to help estimate resources used to ship components
  • Generating technical documents including test plans and reports
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for development

Reporting Structure

  • LBS R&D employs a team based organisational structure whereby each team has a mix of skills to enable them to respond to diverse challenges. You would be reporting to a team lead.

To be successful in this opportunity, meeting the following criteria would be preferrable.

  • Students who are currently studying Environmental Science, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or similar disciplines
  • Familiarity with materials and mechanical assemblies
  • Able to follow instruction for use of inspection and measurement tools (e.g. scales, verniers, multimeters, etc.)
  • Interest in environmental science, materials, carbon footprint estimation
  • Competent with MS Office products
  • Attention to detail
  • Positive, self-motivated disposition and personal accountability
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills
  • Work safely, complying with all safety procedures, rules and instructions
  • Desire to improve lives

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with CAD tools (NX, Solidworks)
  • Experience in manufacturing methods
  • Experience working within a quality system
