Automotive Apprenticeships Available:
The following dual trade automotive apprenticeship is available through the MTA:
- Light Vehicle + Automotive Electrical Dual Trade Apprenticeship
Training is conducted in person at the MTA’s Training and Employment Centre in Royal Park (Adelaide), Cleve and Bordertown.
What is a Light Vehicle and Automotive Electrical Dual Trade?
As a dual trade Light Vehicle mechanic and automotive electrician, you will maintain, diagnose and repair various electrical systems and components of Light Vehicles.
About the Apprenticeship
- Undertake a 5 Year Apprenticeship and obtain a AUR30620 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology and AUR30320 Certificate in III Automotive Electrical Technology.
- Utilise the most advanced electronic diagnostic equipment, to diagnose and repair on-board computer-controlled systems, optimise efficiency and performance.
- Test and repair various electrical systems including lighting, instrumentation, ignition, fuel injection, stability control systems and CAN BUS systems.
- Diagnose and repair various components and parts such as engines, transmissions, cooling systems, steering and suspension, and performing advanced diagnostics.
- All apprentices are trained in Electric Vehicle and Hybrid Electric Vehicle safety to prepare them for the future.
- Air-conditioning training is included in this apprenticeship, subject to licensing requirements through ArcTick.
- Work and earn a wage at a supportive Host Employer (the MTA will find you a suitable Host Employer)
- Attend automotive training at a state-of-the-art training centre
- Once qualified you will have a nationally recognised qualification
Training is a combination of in-person, online and in the workplace.
About you
Essential:
- An Australian citizen / or Permanent Resident
- Currently living in South Australia
- 16 years of age or older
- In Year 11 or higher
- Willing to commit to a 5-year apprenticeship (completely paid for by MTA)
- Driver's Licence- full-time apprentices must have Ps & school-based apprentices must have Ls
- Passionate about automotive
- Positive attitude
Desirable, but NOT essential:
- Have completed a Certificate I or II in Automotive
- Previously worked with hand/power tools
- Have work experience in the automotive industry
