The Department has over 500 staff: a combination of forensic officers (mostly scientists), sworn police members, and public service staff who provide business, logistics and maintenance support. VPFSD provides more than 75,000 examinations per year with results including more than 2,300 DNA links and 10,000 fingerprint links.About the role:The Forensic Services Department (FSD) is seeking a Unit Leader experienced in the implementation and support of core information systems that support laboratory business processes. The role will manage a team of 4+ technical IT helpdesk staff who provide business and technical IT support primarily to the 500 departmental employees along with support to broader Victoria Police personnel who request the services of FSD via online tools.The FSD is also about to commence use of a new laboratory application. This role will be the key contact, authority and product owner for the application, its support, its future functional needs and support arrangements in place locally and with the system vendor and central IT department within Victoria Police.To be successful in this role you will need skills and experience in implementing laboratory IT systems (i.e LIMS), in running business helpdesk services, in managing small teams and in operating in large diverse, multistakeholder organisations.Skills & ExperienceAs the successful applicant, you will have:
- Desirable - Tertiary qualifications in ICT
- Deep understanding of forensic laboratory operations and processes
- Industry relevant training/accreditations
- Demonstrated experience at a senior level across relevant multidisciplinary ICT roles.
- Ability to demonstrate expert knowledge within the relevant ICT product area of responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience at a senior level in the preparation and provision of responsive, clear and concise specialist advice, recommendations and solutions both verbally and in writing through effective research, negotiation and consultation with stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in developing, maintaining and continuously improving ICT products and services in accordance with industry recognised frameworks, standards and systems within a large, highly complex environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and influencing skills together with demonstrated strong written communication skills.
- Extensive experience in the development, maintenance and ongoing improvement of a governance framework and the management of outsourced service providers.
- Proven ability to monitor client and stakeholder satisfaction, and constructively manage stakeholder issues to ensure positive outcomes for the stakeholder and the Region/Department/Command.
- A proven record of ethical behaviour and a demonstrated commitment to the Victoria Police Code of Ethics and Conduct and the Organisational Values.
- 1 x Ongoing VPS-5 position available.
- Position is located at 31 Forensic drive Macleod, Victoria.
- The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
- The successful candidate will be required to provide a DNA sample (buccal swab) for use in laboratory quality control procedures (elimination purposes only).
