Arakoola Agricultural, is an expanding successful livestock enterprise, with multiple properties throughout the Hunter Valley. Due to the retirement of a long term employee we are seeking to add another team member.
Reporting to the Cattle Manager, the role will primarily be dedicated to the beef cattle operation and will involve cattle husbandry as well as pasture management and silage making for the cattle operations. The main cattle operations are based at Woodville and Seaham and additional locations are at Eccleston, Gresford and Stroud Road. The work will normally be based at Woodville, Butterwick and Seaham.
With approx. 600 predominantly Angus breeders, and finishing steers & heifers on irrigated pastures for market by 2 years of age, we cover the whole cycle.
The successful applicant will have an aptitude for animal husbandry, stress free cattle handling techniques, machinery use, pasture, fencing and irrigation. Formal qualifications and experience would be an advantage but are not essential and training will be provided, encouraged and supported.
Arakoola Agricultural also operates two free range egg farms at East Gresford and Stroud Road where work will be required from time to time. No poultry experience is necessary as training can be provided.
Arakoola Agricultural also operates an Australian Heritage Stock Horse stud, and work horses are available, therefore horse-riding/handling experience would be favourable.
The following ESSENTIAL criteria MUST BE MET:
- Driver’s Licence;
- A keen interest in farming and agriculture
- Non-Smoker
- Police Clearance & prepared to undertake drug & alcohol testing
Proven personal attributes should include;
- Fitness, enthusiasm, with ability to perform efficiently without supervision in a safe, timely and professional manner
- The desire to be a successful, long term employee, and grow within the organisation
- The ability to apply knowledge and skills to multiple operations involving problem solving and decision making
- Punctuality, reliability, honesty & a positive attitude
- Be an effective communicator and enjoy autonomy in a role.
- Horse handling and riding skills
An attractive salary package will be negotiated depending on experience. The position is not expected to be live-in but accommodation may be considered depending on the applicant. The role is typically a 5 day a week, weekdays role, some weekends will be required.
The role is primarily located 20 minutes from Tocal Agricultral Collage and Rural trainees or those considering this path are encouraged to apply.
