About the team
The Town’s Library Services is an important community and cultural hub that supports the information, literacy, lifelong learning, and recreational needs of the community. Library staff are responsible for providing excellent customer service along with assisting in the provision of special programs at the library as well as library and information duties.
About the role
The Town is seeking a Local History Librarian who will play a key role in developing and coordinating the Local History collection to preserve the history and culture of the Town of Bassendean.
The role will effectively collaborate with and assist the team and other key stakeholders achieve business unit goals, work requests, demands and Council priorities.
Supervise volunteers and practicum students.
About you
The ideal candidate will have:
- Three-year degree/Graduate Diploma in Library Studies with eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.
- Previous experience developing and coordinating an archival or Local History collection, and engendering community interest in the collection; this includes knowledge of the Copyright Act.
- Knowledge of archival resources and services at the State Library WA and conservation techniques for archival or local studies collections.
- Knowledge and experience of automated library software packages, MS Office software, microform equipment and other automated and electronic data storage, indexing and retrieval systems.
- Ability to work rostered hours including evenings and Saturday mornings.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively within a team and interact with a broad customer service base.
- Organisational skills to manage Local History projects and assist in library operations.
- The ability to research and analyse information to make informed recommendation on Council’s Local History collection.
- Tertiary qualifications and eligibility for Associate Membership of ALIA.
- Current WA “C” or “C-A” Class Driver's License and National Police Certificate

Salary and Benefits
This Part time, permanent role attracts a salary of $ 85,696 - $91,464 pro rata per annum + plus superannuation.
The Town also offers up to 5% additional superannuation (conditions apply), 17.5% leave loading, free parking, ongoing training and professional development, and up to two additional leave days per calendar year.
Working Hours
The position is part time, 40 hours a fortnight, with working days as Tuesday, Thursday & Friday every week. Roster as below:
Week 1: Tuesday - 3-8PM, Thursday - 9-6 PM & Friday: 9-5:30PM
Week2: Tuesday - 9-2PM, Thursday - 9-6PM & Friday: 9-5.30PM
