Maintenance Engineering Manager

  • Newly created role that will support maintenance operations.
  • Opportunity to lead a multidiscipline team.
  • Permanent role with attractive salary and flexibility.

V/Line's purpose is to connect Victorians through safe, reliable, and accessible transport. We believe in giving all Victorians opportunities through travel and transport - connecting them to jobs, education, family and friends, services, tourism and trade.

V/Line is experiencing significant growth and we're delivering more services, more trains, cheaper fares, and huge projects. With more than 3700 weekly train and coach services, an expansive freight network and unprecedented rail investment, millions of Victorians depend on us to deliver. You could be one of our 2700 committed team members who are up to the challenge.

About the role

V/Line is continuing to experience growth and as a result this newly created role offers a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and passionate leader to help shape the future of our maintenance operations.

The Maintenance Engineering Manager is integral to the success of V/Line's Network Development and Maintenance Group (NDAM) which has responsibility for the provision and management of a safe and efficient rail network to support V/Line operations.

The primary purpose of the Maintenance Engineering Manager is to lead a team of skilled technical specialists and maintenance engineers, providing first-line support to operational maintenance teams. You will collaborate with the Asset Management & Performance (AM&P) and Network Engineering functions to support the reliable operation, functionality, and longevity of physical assets and systems.

The Maintenance Engineering Manager will ensure the team can provide technical and engineering expertise across a range of asset classes, including Track & Civil, Structures, Signalling, Electrical, OCS, and Facilities. The team will also be the first point of contact for network maintenance staff for all technical maintenance queries.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Ensure investigation of asset failures, develop improvement plans, and ensure timely implementation of plans.
  • Review and act on incident, investigation, technical, and administration reports to ensure high quality of analysis and data and maintaining safe operating conditions.
  • Develop and implement robust asset management strategies to optimise the performance and longevity of infrastructure assets, including adoption of Global Forum Maintenance Asset Management (GFMAM) aligned standards in Maintenance Engineering.
  • Establish effective communication channels and liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including participation in maintenance management and planning and scheduling forums.
  • Provide leadership when coordinating with Major Periodic Maintenance, Asset Integration and State Projects teams, ensuring smooth asset handover into active service for assets.

About you

Along with a tertiary qualification in an Engineering field, you are an experienced leader and have experience working in multidiscipline teams. You have experience working in Rail, Civil Construction or similar technical fields.

You have a strong ability to establish and foster collaborative relationships with stakeholders and possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to drive continuous improvement.

Fundamentally you are seeking a challenge and relish an opportunity to help shape the future of V/Line and the maintenance teams within the Network Development and Maintenance Group.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated experience establishing and managing a multidiscipline team.
  • Strong leadership experience in Maintenance Engineering, incorporating asset readiness management and adherence to safety standards.
  • Proven ability to effectively influence and manage stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure strategic alignment and drive successful outcomes in Maintenance Engineering initiatives.
  • A Current Victorian Drivers licence is required.

Some regional travel is expected which may include the occasional overnight stay. V/Line supports a hybrid working model.
