Job description

MZ Mining is a mineral sands mining company focused on the production of heavy mineral concentrate (HMC) in the Murray Basin in South Australia. The Company’s principal asset is the Mindarie Mineral Sands Project located 150km east of Adelaide in the Mallee region of South Australia with a Head Office in Adelaide.

MZ Mining has now commenced production. This newly created role, based at the Mindarie site provides the opportunity to be part of the growing maintenance team in this exciting project.

About the Role:

Reporting to the General Manager – Operations, you will contribute to the ongoing effectiveness of the Maintenance Department by successfully leading the Maintenance Team in the consistent achievement of budgeted performance: reduce equipment downtime by ensuring all Maintenance activities are planned, manned and carried out to a high standard, in a safe and timely manner.

Duties include:

  • You will ensure compliance with Company OH&S policies and procedures and relevant regulations.
  • Promote safety awareness and compliance amongst MZ Mining and contract personnel by actively developing, supporting and participating in safety initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, motivation and support to the Maintenance Team taking accountability for team performance, including contractors.
  • Ensure the safe and timely execution of all preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs and shutdown work, minor projects, and reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and oversee a site wide Maintenance plan and scheduling strategy of all assets with efficient and effective workforce utilisation, cost effectiveness and proactive service delivery which in turn delivers high levels of reliability outcome. Report monthly on the key metrics.
  • Regularly communicate the Maintenance Work Plan with key stakeholders, identifying required plant preparations, facilitating review and prioritization of tasks and resources.
  • Maintain the system for identifying and holding critical spares, to minimise unplanned downtime as a consequence of single point failures.
  • Monitor and coach the Maintenance team on the key metric drivers to identify maintenance improvement opportunities, within execution standards and reliability engineering processes.
  • Ensure Maintenance manning requirements are met by coordinating rosters and maintaining staffing levels.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of plant performance, utilizing Management of Change processes.
  • Drive a high standard of housekeeping for all plant and Maintenance areas.
  • Utilise problem solving processes to lead investigations into variances to desired performance, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Develop, implement, maintain and monitor adherence to fit for purpose Maintenance procedures, processes and strategies.
  • Support the achievement of site goals by clearly defining tasks and accountabilities and holding direct reports accountable for their performance.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring for the Maintenance team by the effective use of the performance review process, to provide regular, constructive feedback on performance, improve individual development and capability and enhance employee engagement, productivity and job satisfaction. 
  • Plan and resource training and skills development for the Maintenance team.
  • Monitor and communicate supply chain issues which negatively impact on maintenance effectiveness in relation to components and consumables availability and quality.

At times, act as the department head in the absence of the General Manager Operations.

About You:

  • Hold a Trade or Tertiary Qualification in a Mechanical or Electrical discipline.
  • 5 years’ experience leading and motivating within a mineral processing maintenance environment.
  • Certificate IV in Frontline Management (desirable).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate competency with MS Excel, MS Word, MS Powerpoint.
  • Strong commitment to safe work processes.
  • Commitment and ability to align with MZ Mining’s Values, Policies and Objectives.
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills, with a demonstrated ability to work to deadlines, set priorities, and deliver consistently high performance.
