We’re seeking a driven and experienced Maintenance Technician to support the Power Plant team at our Cape Preston Operations. The power station is a combined-cycle, gas-fired plant with 480MW design capacity – it has seven gas turbines, three steam turbines and six heat recovery generators. This is your chance to be part of something new and exciting in the Pilbara. This role will be on a permanent basis, 2/1 FIFO day shift roster FIFO from Perth to Cape Preston.
Reporting to the Supervisor – MT, in this role you will be responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance of the Power Station and to coincide with the requirements of the site as well as the statutory requirements and CPM’s policies and procedures.
You will perform preventative and breakdown maintenance. You will be a self-starter, and someone who enjoys a challenge. We are looking for motivated a team player, with good communication skills and a can-do attitude.
In this role you’ll be responsible for:
- Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvements on mechanical systems to maintain a consistent delivery of power to the mine site. (Working on valves, fans, pumps, motor alignments, gearbox change outs etc)
- Ensure safe operation of power station equipment.
- Contribute to achieving team goals.
- Maintain availability and reliability of designated plant items.
- Assist in documenting power plant service processes.
- Utilize SAP Maintenance Management system for accurate task recording.
- Conduct inspections, fault finding, and root cause analysis to minimize repeat failures.
- Aid in training new and existing power plant staff and apprentices.
- Assist in developing and reviewing operational/maintenance plans.
- Support plant commissioning and start-up to reach design capacity.
To be successful in the role you must have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- You must have an Australian Mechanical Fitter Trade qualification.
- Proven experience in Mechanical maintenance field ideally in Power Stations/ Power generation. Understanding of appropriate application of proactive, operational and preventive maintenance.
- Desirable: Experience using SAP; Working knowledge of Power Generation plant and auxiliary systems and Balance of Plant (Water System, Compressed Air Systems); Knowledge and experience of operation or working with industrial gas appliance.
- Knowledge in Power operational procedures, isolation procedures and regulations.
- Ability to direct and conduct mechanical investigations such that root causes are determined.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, skills, flexible and adaptive approach to fluctuating workloads and priorities.
- A current WA Manual Drivers licence is an essential requirement. Forklift (LF) licence is preferred.
