Description
TASKS
- Provide support and assistance to the Team Leader Management Accounting concerning all technical aspects associated with the running of the Management Accounting Team.
- Liaise with all teams in the Finance Unit to ensure the Council's provided with an efficient and effective financial framework.
- Assist the Finance Unit to comply with all relevant accounting standards, Local Government Code of Accounting Practice, and the Local Government Act and associated regulations.
- Assist the Team Leader Management Accounting in communicating the financial objectives of the Council to all Corporate & Business Units.
- Liaise with Managers to develop, prepare, monitor and control Council Budgets.
- Evaluate budget proposals and proposed business cases.
- Assist in budget reviews, analyse and project trends for reporting to Management and Council.
- Assist in developing and monitoring corporate budget reporting mechanisms through a management accounting and reporting system.
- Assist in formulating long term financial planning and budget development strategies and policies.
- Assist in evaluating budget performance and financial management accountability across all units.
- Identify opportunities for improvement with regard to the organisations financial management systems.
- Liaising with relevant government bodies/departments and industry peers in satisfying Council's financial management obligations and requirements.
- Assist Finance Unit to comply with all statutory financial, taxation and reporting obligations, policies, audit requirement and accounting standards.
- Assist the preparation and timely lodgement of all statutory returns, reports and reconciliations.
- Maintain effective customer service standards.
- Assist the implementation of any recommendations made by external auditors in the audit management letters.
- Assist maintaining the completeness, accuracy, reconciliation, reliability and integrity of Councils financial ledgers.
- Assist in identifying, improving and mapping all relevant financial processes.
- Assist in managing relevant integrated information systems to ensure data integrity and adherence to Council's internal controls.
- Undertake other duties as requested by the Team Leader Management Accounting.
Profile
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
- Assist Council to have effective financial planning and management accounting function
- Assist the development and implementation of financial policies and processes for performance management and reporting, asset maintenance and enhancement, funding decisions, and risk management practices.
- Assist in developing appropriate financial planning policy, systems and practices to provide a high degree of compliance.
- Assist in the formulation of financial planning and budgeting strategies & policies which form part of Council's overall financial planning models.
- Liaise with Mangers and other relevant staff to ensure that appropriate information management systems exist to support decision making.
- Apply all relevant legislation and regulations, accounting standards, Council policies and internal control principles as required.

Essential qualifications
- Current NSW Drivers Licence
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce, Business or Finance

- Experience working with an accounting enterprise system
- Management accounting, budgeting and financial planning experience
- Highly developed interpersonal and analytical skills
- Ability to plan and prioritise work

- Relevant computer skills (including Microsoft Office applications)
